Dedicated experts in offshore engineering WINDPOWER Anholt transformer platform Customer: Bladt Industries A/S Energinet.dk The project During August 2012, Semco Maritime successfully concluded work on the Anholt A Transformer Platform, which is on of the biggest of it’s kind that Semco Maritime has been working on. The new transformer platform - owned by Danish energy company Energinet.dk - is positioned in close vicinity of the 400 MW Anholt offshore wind farm – a new wind farm close to the island of Anholt in Kattegat. It is currently the largest offshore wind farm in Denmark. The work on the project began at Bladt Industries in Aalborg in February 2011. The Anholt A Transformer Platform sailed away from Aalborg in April 2012 and was successfully installed a few days later at its position between Djursland and Anholt. In short, the power generated by the 111 wind turbines is transmitted via buried submarine cables to the substation in the western part of the wind farm. The wind turbines produce power at a voltage of 33kV. In order to reduce power loss, the voltage is transformed to 220kV in the substation before the power is transmitted to shore through the 25km AC submarine cable. Technical description Semco Maritime was in charge of the electrical and technical systems on the transformer platform. These consisted of: • Surveillance • Lighting • Ventilation • Fire fighting equipment for both closed and open areas During the construction and installation process some 45 electricians worked on site in Aalborg and Kattegat – led by a management group of five. Semco Maritime has gained a lot of knowledge from several transformer platforms. There’s a lot happening in this market and we are currently involved in several projects across the North Sea area, says Peter Hedemann Andersen.Naturally our confidence is high as we move forward and are involved in many more substation projects. We are now in a position where we are able to reap the benefits from our year long experience in this area, Peter Hedemann Andersen concludes.
