Dry docking of GustoMSC CJ70–X150 jack-ups At Bergen Hanøytangen you find one of Europe’s largest dry dock facilities - acquired by Semco Maritime in 2015. Numerous semisubmersible drilling rigs have been dry-docked here throughout the years. However, docking of jack-ups has always been a problem due to the rocky seabed north of Stavanger. So far, there has not been any coastal location north of Stavanger suitable for accommodating large jack-up rigs and jacking them out of the water. Over the years, we have been investigating ways of accommodating jack-ups at Hanøytangen, but with limited success. Eventually, however, we managed to identify a rig type that might have the potential we were looking for, namely the ‘GustoMSC CJ70-X150 – ultra-harsh environment drilling jack-up’. This jack-up has one of the most popular and common rig designs used in the deeper part of the Norwegian North Sea and is one of the world’s largest, heaviest and tallest drilling rigs - having a combined weight of up to 40,000 tons and a leg length exceeding 200 metres. Eleven (11) jack-ups of this type have been constructed at various yards in the Far East and all of them are now working in the North Sea. The GustoMSC CJ70 – X150 is a unique drilling rig for drilling in water depths up to 150 m
