A CONSOLIDATED PRESENCE IN SINGAPORE Operations and headcount in Singapore have grown substantially during the later years. And presence in core Asian markets will become even stronger in the future. It makes a difference to have a strong presence and close proximity to the market. That’s the conclusion in Singapore, where Semco Maritime has experienced substantial growth since establishing local presence. Most engineering, tendering, commissioning for the Asian market as well as many other vital tasks are now carried out by employees in Singapore. For this reason, the headcount in Singapore has grown a lot: From 10 to 65 employees during the last 4 years. - We are very pleased with the way things have developed for us in Singapore. While we accept that falling oil prices could slow our progress, we firmly believe that there is still potential for future growth, says Managing Director, Martin Just. New offices in Asia Semco Maritime is not, however, on the retreat. New offices have just been opened in China, and others are planned to open in Korea: - Close proximity to our markets is important. Semco Maritime needs to be present and to have a strong knowledge of the local markets in every aspect, Martin Just points out. Though the new-builds have decreased recently, Semco Maritime in Singapore is eyeing other possibilities: - We are looking into the market for FPSO vessels. We believe there is potential for growth in this segment in the years to come, Martin Just concludes. A challenging market The offshore market has changed a lot: Gone are the days when construction of new rigs used to take place in Europe or the US. These days most new buildings of rigs are completed in China, Korea or Singapore - something that has really been pivotal for Semco Maritime’s Singapore operations. At present as a result of falling oil prices this trend is under threat: - So we are in the midst of adapting to a much more intense competition in our traditional markets, says Martin Just. “Semco Maritime needs to be present and to have a strong knowledge of the local markets in every aspect” Martin Just 2
